10 Burning Questions For WWE Backlash 2018

Will this PPV measure up and deliver, or just fill time?

It really feels like we were just here, doesn’t it? Four weeks ago, we were ramping up for the biggest show of the year, preparing for the latest main event coronation of Roman Reigns and the much-anticipated in-ring debut of Ronda Rousey.

Flash forward about three weeks, and we were getting ready for Reigns locked in a cage with Brock Lesnar and the largest Royal Rumble in history on a card that feature no women.

And now, here we are, hours away from the latest PPV offering, which gives us five title matches, the first Daniel Bryan singles PPV match in more than three years, and a grudge match between Roman and Samoa Joe.

And what exactly are we in store for with Backlash? This will be the third WWE Championship match between AJ Styles and Shinsuke Nakamura, though the feud has had new life breathed into it by Nakamura’s heel turn. Despite there being separate brands, two of the matches feature inter-brand bouts. Four of the title matches feature champs who have held their respective titles for less than a month each.

You have to wonder if there’s a potential burnout factor here, not just with fans, but with the writers. Will Backlash deliver a memorable show? Will something newsworthy happen?

There are plenty of questions that will need to be answered by the end of the PPV. Let’s take a look at some of the big ones. Let’s get to it…

10. Is Carmella A Flash In The Pan?

Last summer, Carmella technically became the first woman to win an all-female Money in the Bank ladder match when her flunky James Ellsworth retrieved the briefcase.

For months, Carmella floundered on the SmackDown roster, never being little more than a pest who threatened to cash in her briefcase. It seemed like there wasn’t any big plan for her beyond capturing the briefcase.

And then, she cashed in on a beaten-down Charlotte on the SmackDown after WrestleMania, winning the title. But does anyone take her seriously as a threat, especially with a roster populated by Asuka, Charlotte and Becky Lynch?

If Carmella retains, then WWE might have some plans for her. If Charlotte defeats her, then we know she won the title just to have a successful cash-in and pay off the briefcase.
