10 Current WWE GOATs

These new guys aren't bad.

Wrestling fans these days are forever bemoaning the idea that they were somehow born in the wrong generation.

The belief that WWE was better in the good old days (by which one typically means 1998-2001) is pretty widespread, and it's not exactly without merit either. The standard inside the ring may be more exacting today, but the overall product feels thrown together, and there are noticeably fewer Rock/Austin-style icons. (None, to be precise.)

Believe it or not, however, any of the company's all-time greatest in their particular sub-genre are still around in some capacity or other today. In fact, there are probably more GOATs on the current roster than at any other point in history.

This is pretty normal across all sports, actually. Many of the GOATs in their respective fields are either still competing or have just recently hung up their boots: the likes of Usain Bolt, Michael Phelps, Lionel Messi (or perhaps Cristiano Ronaldo, depending on your tastes).

It's something to do with advancements in diet and conditioning, probably. We don't really have time to open that can of worms here, but the point is it's a thing, and at least 10 WWE stars probably have a good shout at joining the list.

10. Greatest Athlete: Brock Lesnar

WWE is forever trying to convince us that Brock Lesnar is the most impressive physical specimen in the history of sports entertainment, and since WWE is the only company which actually operates in the field of "sports entertainment", what they're really saying there is that he's the best they've ever had.

And, to be honest, it's kind of inarguable. The Beast Incarnate is an absolute freak of nature, and one of just a handful of sportsmen in history who can genuinely claim to have reached the highest level in at least three different disciplines (and perhaps four, actually, if you count his brief NFL run which ended as the result of a motorcycle injury).

Even at 40, Lesnar is still adding to the litany of evidence for his being a world-class athlete just about every time he steps into the squared circle. It was only seven months ago, for instance, that he leapfrogged over the onrushing Goldberg and drew audible gasps from the Orlando crowd at WrestleMania 33.

As a person, he has his foibles - and wrestling fans would of course prefer that he showed a little more commitment to the sport that gave him his first brush with the mainstream - but there's really no knocking his credentials as the greatest ever WWE athlete.
