There are many essential opponents to challenge Damian Priest for his title, these are the best.

Damian Priest is the NXT North American champion and is currently providing a different feeling to the belt than any of his predecessors have. He feels like a totally fresh superstar with unlimited potential, someone who is only going to get better as his reign continues.

Priest is a unique professional wrestler: a gigantic tall beast who moves around the ring quicker than men half his size, decimating his opponents with brutal kicks and sensational offense, but who knows how exactly to get an audience invested in his success even without a proper crowd. Few WWE wrestlers have excelled in the Empty Arena Era like he has.

While there's a chance that Johnny Gargano, in the midst of his heel run, could take the belt out of Priest's grasp at the TakeOver 31 event, hopefully the Archer of Infamy will retain and be able to show off his idiosyncratic skills with a variety of opponents.

All of these matches are fresh and potentially show stealing, and after his recent TV classic with Timothy Thatcher, we're even more desperate to see what magic Priest could create with these foes...

10. Isaiah "Swerve" Scott

Isaiah “Swerve” Scott has been one of the most prominent members of the Cruiserweight division in the past few months, having a strong but badly-promoted feud with champion Santos Escobar.

Unfortunately, due to the fact that the Cruiserweight division rarely gets a lot of time on NXT TV, Scott hasn’t been able to showcase his talents regularly. While he‘s had some good six-man tags with Breezango against Legado Del Fantasma and impressed in a singles match with Johnny Gargano, he hasn’t been pushed in the way that someone with his talents should be. He has outstanding agility, diverse offence and utter smoothness in the ring, and deserves the opportunity to showcase his vital skills in a major headlining match.

Having him face the North American Champion Damian Priest would fix that issue and would lend him the chance to finally break out as a big deal in WWE that he really needs. He would sell Priest’s offence like no one else on the roster and could easily convince audiences of a potential upset. It would give Priest an engaging title defence and elevate both men in the process.
