The opening match of the 2011 Survivor Series saw United States champion Dolph Ziggler defeat John Morrison in a solid 11-minute showcase. Ziggler's stock within the company was rising rapidly, while Morrison's had petered out as 2011 wore on. In fact, Morrison wasn't much longer for WWE.

Morrison had made the decision some time before Survivor Series that he would be leaving the company, effective at the end of November. Morrison was officially written out eight days following the pay-per-view, after a brutal assault at the hands of former partner The Miz.

Morrison would later say that lingering injuries, particularly with his neck, led to him deciding to step away from the rigors of the arduous WWE life. Morrison has since tackled various positions in the film industry, while wrestling at a schedule more convenient to his pursuits and his health alike.
