Punk walked out on WWE the day after the 2014 Royal Rumble, and stayed away. He mostly kept mum on his various grievances with his ex-employer until a Thanksgiving night appearance on Colt Cabana's Art of Wrestling podcast later that year. The future UFC welterweight competitor had plenty to say, especially in regards to WWE's COO.

Punk in particular recalled his final meeting with Triple H and Vince, where Vince tried to pass off the planned WrestleMania 30 match between he and Hunter as, "a main event". To that, Punk turned to "The Game" and told him exactly how he felt about him not doing right by him during the "Summer of Punk", and added that Helmsley needed to work with him, not the other way around.

In regards to the finish, Punk confirmed he was supposed to win, but walked anyway, stating, " I didn't want to give him the f--king privilege."
