10 Iconic Sounds In Wrestling

9. A Chop Hitting Flesh

No sound ripples through the crowd quite like a well-delivered chop to the chest. The sound resonates, ricocheting off the victim's skin and out to the crowd, and you can't help but wince. Sure, sometimes it's softened by a Ric Flair woooo!, or amped up a bit beforehand by the Big Show shushing the audience, but that moment, the impact of open palm or back of palm against flesh, is more visceral than almost anything else in the match.

Even in an era where finishers are kicked out of with numbing regularity, where DDTs are transitional moves and the Canadian Destroyer is just another part of an overzealous indie sploogefest, the chop has somehow retained its aura of believability. And that meat-slamming thwack of impact plays a huge part in maintaining that aura.
