10 Jaw-Dropping Times WWE Blurred The Lines
9. Goldust Burns His Gear
Dustin Rhodes is probably someone who’d have appreciated a
character change like the one Brock Lesnar was afforded. Today, his Goldust
character is filling the role of a harmless, light-hearted comedy act, but back
in the ‘90s the story was rather different.
Back then, he was portraying the sexually suggestive, androgynous 'bizarre one', who at one point almost got breast implants and would later become embroiled in some weird bondage angle with Luna Vachon.
With a history like that, it would have been perfectly understandable for Rhodes to have grown sick of the wackiness, and so the WWE capitalised on that possibility by having him turn on the Goldust character.
Rhodes came out and burned his Goldust attire, before cutting a promo on Vince McMahon that touched upon him being robbed of his dignity, his family name being horribly misused, and even the break-up of his real-life marriage.
Was all of it entirely true? Probably not, but it was certainly believable and a novel way to add a new twist to the rollercoaster ride that was the Goldust gimmick.
