It is every professional wrestler's dream to perform on the grandest stage of them all.

A lot of modern wrestlers started their journey as wide-eyed fans watching their heroes perform at WrestleMania, promising parents that one day it would be them enjoying their WrestleMania moment. Thousands dream the dream, but only a small number get to live it.

Once that dream has been experienced, professional wrestlers can be forgiven for being happy with their lot and hanging their hat on their Show of Shows appearances, telling friends and family wild stories of performing in front of thousands at the pro wrestling Super Bowl.

But then the itching starts again, and the lure of a return to the stage is just too strong. Sometimes this itch takes longer to return, meaning wrestlers can go more than a decade between WrestleMania appearances. These 10 (well, technically 22) men had to wait longer than the rest.

These are the 10 longest gaps ever between WrestleMania matches. For the sake of argument, dark match battle royals have not been included, and neither has the gimmick battle royal from WrestleMania X-Seven.

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
