When Ric Flair signed on the dotted line with the WWF in August, 1991, anticipation was rife that the promotion would present a dream match wrestling fans yearned to see. Throughout the 1980's, Flair's wrestling-centric matches dominated the NWA, whil Hulk Hogan championed 'Sports Entertainment' over in the WWF.

Seeing the pair collide seemed like a tantalising prospect, but it was something the WWF decided to steer clear of for the most part. Matches did take place on house shows, but a scheduled Flair vs. Hogan showdown at WrestleMania VIII was canned. It seemed fans would never see their fantasy come true.

That changed when Hogan signed with WCW in the summer of 1994. Suddenly, the group had the chance to capitalise on something the WWF had passed on. At the Bash At The Beach '94 pay-per-view, Hogan and Flair met in the main event.

The match was formulaic, but that didn't matter so much. It was one many had wanted to see for the longest time, and now it was finally happening. As a result, Bash At The Beach became WCW's highest-grossing event to that point.
