10 Most Boring Wrestlers Of 2016

They didn't just drop the ball, they put it to sleep.

In terms of active talent, 2016 was an amazing year for WWE. Workers who have proven themselves to be among the best in the world over the past few years - including AJ Styles, Shinsuke Nakamura, Austin Aries, and Roderick Strong - joined the company, and the result has been more great bouts and angles than ever before. Trusted stars who have already been a part of the company for a while, from Sami Zayn to Kevin Owens to John Cena to The New Day, have also been doing incredible work in and out of the ring.

Unfortunately, there are still certain wrestlers who missed the mark in 2016 - men and women who ultimately failed to entertain the fans. It doesn't mean that they were bad workers or personalities (although some undeniably were), more that what they were doing failed to catch on. Maybe they didn't innovate, maybe they were cast in the wrong role, and maybe they just sucked. With all the other great talent doing amazing things in the company, though, their shortcomings stuck out that much more.

Here are the 10 most boring wrestlers of 2016. Hopefully they step it up next year, because the competition is only going to get more heated.

10. Dolph Ziggler

Dolph Ziggler's feud with The Miz, which wrapped up at last Sunday's TLC Pay-Per-View, was probably the best program of the entire year. It's a good thing, too, because without it, Dolph would have easily topped this list.

Apart from The Miz program, "The Showoff" had a dismal 2016, most notable for an interminable feud with Baron Corbin. The program between the two men started the evening after WrestleMania and went all the way to Money in the Bank, with three bad PPV matches resulting from the affair. Dolph's lame babyface jokes and hard-to-get-behind character made "The Showoff" who captured the World Heavyweight Championship on Raw in 2013 feel like an entirely different wrestler.

After that, Dolph and his Motley Crue-lite gimmick were shoved into a post-split WWE World Championship feud with Dean Ambrose. The entirety of the (thankfully) brief program focused on Ambrose criticizing Dolph for being more concerned with stealing the show than winning matches. Dolph promised to do both at SummerSlam. He did neither.

Without The Miz to work with in 2017, it'll take a miracle to keep Dolph away from the top of next year's list.
