9. Vince McMahon Winning The Royal Rumble

Precisely two years before he had won the 30-man match, Vince McMahon sat at ringside delivering his own brand of goofy, over-the-top commentary for the 1997 event. Flash forward to 1999 and his character had transitioned into the evil 'Mr. McMahon', an authority figure determined to tear down the rebellious Steve Austin.

Still, this was a non-wrestler winning one of WWE's most famous matches. How could the company (and McMahon himself) even book such nonsense? The Rumble had for years indicated who was going on to the main event of WrestleMania - meaning detractors felt Vince's win made a mockery of one of the year's most important events.

On the other side of the coin, this was just another chapter in an Austin vs. McMahon feud arguably bigger than the Royal Rumble or even WrestleMania in '99. Red-hot and dominating the entire industry, this war between stuffy establishment and anti-authority recklessness vindicated McMahon's Rumble victory.
