Even with all of the theatrics, at the end of the day a pro wrestling match is supposed to be a pretty simple contest between the billed competitors. A €œtwo men enter, one man leaves€ type deal. However, there are times when that set-up isn€™t enough for a promotion€™s bookers. Instead, they pack a match with so many characters, moments and unexpected twists that the final product turns out more closely resembling an action movie than it does a wrestling match. It's a style known as overbooking and it is one of the unique qualities that often turn standard pro wrestling into full-on sports entertainment. While the very word overbooking has a negative connotation to it (derived from the many instances where it has ruined an otherwise perfectly good match), there are instances when this gasoline-fuelled style of match design just so happens to be the perfect recipe for success.
