10 Most Heart-Breaking WWE Moments Of The 2010s

9. Christian's Five Day Reign

Whilst this reign is, in theory, five times better than Bálor's, the circumstances surrounding it are at least five times sadder.

Christian captured his first ever world championship in WWE at Extreme Rules 2011, defeating Alberto Del Rio in a wild ladder match.

This was momentous for a number of reasons. Firstly, this was Christian's first ever world title win in WWE, after thirteen years of toil. Secondly, the beloved superstar won the title after his best friend and tag partner, Edge, was forced to give it up after retiring from the business.

All in all, this was a real feel good moment for Christian. "Moment" being the operative word, because it would come to an end in less than a week.

On the episode of SmackDown following Christian's win, the new champion was challenged to a title match by Randy Orton, which he promptly lost, ending Christian's feel-good reign at just five days. Two if you factor in that SmackDown was pre-recorded back then.

This exposed Christian's world title win as a PR stunt, a way to give Edge a spiritual push after his retirement. Christian would get another world title run after this, but his first win was tainted forever by this heartless piece of booking by WWE.
