10 Most Memorable WWE Raw Moments From 1997

10. Steve Austin Vs Bret Hart In A Street Fight

Date: April 21st WrestleMania 13's crown jewel was the magnificent Submission Match between Austin and Hart, resulting in a rare double turn that wasn't exactly planned or crafted that way. That organic nature of fans growing tired of Bret's act and becoming enamored with the no-nonsense attitude of Austin helped to make it better than it would have if the turns had been part of a storyline of some sort. A month after Mania, the feud was still red hot, and because there was still a lot to work though, a Street Fight was made for Raw. If you thought the Submission Match was physical, the Street Fight makes their Mania match look like it was full of John Morrison's strikes. Austin, especially, cranked it up, absolutely destroying Bret with a steel chair repeatedly. He wore the chair out over Bret's knee and ankle, to the point where you almost expected the career of "The Hitman" to be compromised. The fight ended with referees running out to stop Austin from doing just that, but it wasn't the end of the memorable moments for the night. Later in the show, as Bret was being loaded into an ambulance, Austin was revealed to be in the driver's seat, and he began attacking Hart as soon as the doors were closed, getting several seconds of beat down in until he is separated. Even later on in the show, after being attacked by Owen Hart and The British Bulldog, only to be saved by Shawn Michaels, Austin was then attacked by the returning Brian Pillman. Michaels had to make the save yet again after chasing Owen and Bulldog away, but the battle lines had been drawn. Austin, and now Michaels, were fully entrenched in war with the brand new Hart Foundation.
