10 Most Shocking Double-Crossings In WWE History
What goes around sure does come around...
This past week on Monday Night Raw, Kevin Owens surprised us
all by taking home the vacant WWE Universal Championship. Even more shocking
still was the fact that his victory came after Triple H had showed up from out
of nowhere and took out Roman Reigns, before double-crossing his one-time buddy
Seth Rollins and handing the win to Owens on a platter.
Then again, given Triple H’s track record, we probably shouldn’t have been shocked at all; turning his back on his many accomplices has become a speciality of The Game over the years. Not that he’s been the only one at it though.
Time and again we’ve seen all sorts of betrayals and back-stabbings in the WWE, and more often than not they’ve produced some of the more compelling pieces of programming.
Here, we recount some of those most notable examples, as we look back at ten of the most shocking double-crossings in WWE history. And before anyone brings it up, Hulk Hogan joining the nWo was indeed in WCW…
10. Triple H Turns On Randy Orton
As alluded to earlier, Triple H is no stranger to the
double-cross, and here we have one of his earlier instances from when he was in
charge of Evolution.
To set the scene, Triple H’s protégé Randy Orton had just captured the World Heavyweight Championship from Chris Benoit - the very man that the Game himself had lost the belt to just a few months prior. That had been Triple H’s third reign in just a couple of years and simply put; he wanted to hold that title once again.
More importantly, he wanted to hold that title more than he wanted to retain the services of Orton in Evolution.
So in the midst of Orton’s post-SummerSlam celebration, Triple H would pull the rug out from under the newly-crowned champ. In this case, the rug being Batista, who had hoisted Orton onto his shoulders, only to unceremoniously dump Orton to the ground and in doing so dump him from the group.
This prompted a brutal beating from Triple H, sending Orton the most emphatic of messages that he was no longer a part of the star-studded faction.
