10 Reasons Alberto Del Rio's WWE Return Is Failing

The Mexican Aristocrat turned proud citizen of Mex-America has failed to set WWE on fire.

Online speculation was rife prior to October's Hell in a Cell pay-per-view regarding the identity of John Cena's opponent for the United States Championship in his latest open challenge. Few people, however, expected the return of former four-time World Champion Alberto Del Rio, flanked by fellow returnee Zeb Colter. Less than ten minutes later, Del Rio hit Cena with a devastating side kick and pinned him cleanly to win his first WWE United States Championship. A single kick ended perhaps the most exciting midcard title reign of the last decade, which left Del Rio with huge shoes to fill as champion. There's no doubt that Del Rio made a major statement with his return, but he has since notably cooled off, with his matches regularly playing out to quiet and indifferent crowds. This is shocking given that, in the year since his initial departure from WWE, Del Rio had become one of the most over performers in Mexico and on the American indy circuit (under his Alberto El Patron moniker). Something isn't clicking for Del Rio in his latest WWE run and the audience can see it. If WWE are serious about presenting Alberto Del Rio as its next big hispanic star, there's a lot of work that needs to be done in order to get him over again...
