In an early 2017 surprise, ESPN announced that Kurt Angle will be inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame this year. While fans were in near universal agreement that he was worthy of enshrinement, we had no idea when it was going to happen. The superstar hasn’t been in the company since leaving in 2006, but the audience held out hope for any sort of return. It finally happened.

Angle has enjoyed quite the career. He emerged near the end of the Attitude Era, and soon became a major player in the WWF. In the early 2000s, he was one of the top stars in the promotion and delivered a series of memorable moments and stellar matches. He worked with all the top names in major programs, and was often putting on the best match of the night.

Besides his pro wrestling career, the man is an incredible athlete and a hero to many. Few professional or amateur wrestlers can match him when it comes to pure talent. He’s enjoyed a lengthy run in the business, and taken to it in a way that few others ever have. Despite racking up a series of horrible injuries along the way, he still wrestled like a man half his age well into his 40s. There’s a reason why Hulk Hogan often referred to him as a “cyborg.”

It’s time for Kurt to get the credit he is so rightfully due. It’s been a long time coming, but it will be worth the wait...

As Rust Cohle from True Detective said "Life's barely long enough to get good at one thing. So be careful what you're good at." Sadly, I can't solve a murder like Rust...or change a tire, or even tie a tie. But I do know all the lyrics to Hulk Hogan's "Real American" theme song and can easily name every Natural Born Thriller from the dying days of WCW. I was once ranked 21st in the United States in Tetris...on the Playstation 3 version...for about a week. Follow along @AndrewSoucek and check out my podcast at wrestlingwithfriends.com
