10 Reasons WWE Need To End The Brand Split (Again)

9. Mo Authority Figures, Mo Problems

Brands Together

Question: what are some other actual storylines on SmackDown right now aside from Daniel Bryan and Shane McMahon's d***-measuring contest regarding how to run the brand? Are you blanking out? Well, that's not a surprise, because it is really the only story going on right now on that show. That wouldn't necessarily be a problem, but when you factor in that Stephanie McMahon and Kurt Angle will likely have big angles heading into their prospective matches at WrestleMania, it's gonna be a triple dose of authority figure nonsense.

I know it's an old hat critique, but the use of general managers and commissioners as central characters of a brand has become a tired trope for WWE. Obviously, it can be used well and has yielded quality stories, but in general, they're just an unnecessary distraction from what we actually care about.

It makes you wish for the days of the Authority. Sure, Stephanie and Hunter's promos were grating, but at least they only showed up on RAW and let SmackDown be focused (mostly) on matches. Maybe if the brands merged again, we could have that back.
