10 Reasons WWE Will Extend CM Punk's Contract

We aren't fully convinced WWE will release the controversial superstar next month.

WWE.comWWE.comCM Punk is gone from the WWE forever, it seems. The final curtain looks to have fallen, and the indie darling who won the hearts of millions with his unique brand of wrestling looks to have called time on proceedings. Six months on from his final appearance on WWE television - a rather underwhelming exit via the hands of Kane at the Royal Rumble - there has been no sign of Chicago's finest on our TV screens. The millions who initially felt it was all a clever work from the WWE - ala his mesmerising storyline with Vince McMahon back in 2011 - have conceded defeat. Punk is gone, and the witty promos and technical superiority that endeared himself to an army of fans have gone too. But the way he left was so breathtakingly unique that it ultimately left more questions than answers. For example, what were his reasons behind simply refusing to work after the Royal Rumble? And what happens next in the career of CM Punk? His ex-girlfriend Natalie Slater - perhaps more well-known for her role with vegan baking company Bake and Destroy - emphatically claimed in a passionate and vitriolic column that Punk is indeed "retired", which seems to close the book on his time with the WWE. And whilst that may well be the case, it hasn't stopped those behind the scenes in the WWE trying to lure back Punk in an emotional reunion. The Wrestling Observer Newsletter are reporting that the company are pondering an extension to Punk's contract - which ends in July. Almost like a boyfriend trying to get back into the heart of his partner after the mother of all arguments, the WWE will not give up on Punk. They're fully entitled to do it, as they are with any other Superstar on their books. Due to Punk missing substantial time away from the ring, the WWE can simply roll the contract on, meaning Phil Brooks is still very much a WWE employee at the present time. Some may deem it strange that a multi-million dollar conglomerate like the WWE - notoriously savvy business dealers - are choosing to continue paying a man who refuses to work for them. However, scratch the surface beyond the obvious, and you'll see that there are a whole host of reasons why the WWE want Punk tied down to a new deal.
