The crowd reaction was overwhelmingly positive when AJ Styles and Shinsuke Nakamura briefly locked horns in June's Money in the Bank ladder match, although there's every chance Vince McMahon will dismiss it as mere fluke.

Fortunately, the WWE product is no longer governed quite so rigidly by the chairman of the board, and his son-in-law would probably be mortified if two of the men he helped bring to the company finished their respective runs without meeting one-on-one.

A long-term feud - even if they each remain on the side of good - therefore seems likely at some point in 2018, particularly since both of them more suited to SmackDown, with its wrestling first approach, than the promo-oriented Monday Night Raw.

Whether this goes down at WrestleMania is less clear, and if we're totally honest, perhaps it's better that it doesn't. A potential show-stealer of this kind deserves a minimum of 25 minutes. At 'Mania, that could be halved to accommodate an elaborate John Cena entrance.
