10 Royal Rumble 2017 Entrants Who Won’t Enter 2018's

We'll miss that Goldberg vs. 'Taker tease this year...

If last year's Royal Rumble taught us anything, it's that the gloss has been removed from WWE's 30-man, over-the-top-rope tradition.

Providing a winner fans want to see has become harder and harder (despite the loudest contrary evidence imaginable) as the years have rolled on, and that's why moments such as Goldberg squaring off with The Undertaker - or Braun Strowman's domination - stood out more than the Randy Orton win. The winner should feel more important this year, if only because WWE don't have the same wealth of star power in the men's match they did in 2017. Just look at that image above. Take in each individual foreground face for a second, then put a big red line through the biggest stars - because you won't be seeing many of them, at least not in the Rumble.

We already know that names like John Cena and Randy Orton will be in there, and both Shinsuke Nakamura and Finn Bálor are in this year's match, but which 2017 entrants won't be returning for a repeat performance?

10. James Ellsworth

Little James Ellsworth isn't one of those big stars, but he's still a notable absentee.

The guy who did well with everything WWE handed him won't be part of the 2018 Royal Rumble because he's no longer part of the roster, full stop. We'll miss that underdog mentality and the comedic aura Ellsworth brought with him.

The fact 'Jimmy' is even being mentioned shows just how much he wormed his way into the hearts and minds of fans with his performances. He only lasted 15 seconds in last year's Rumble before being eliminated by Braun Strowman, and was well on his way to being Carmella's bitch by that point, but he'll be missed.

WWE will have to work if they're to find someone who can leave such an impression in just 15 seconds and not be considered a wasted spot in the Rumble. Let's hope that somewhere, the chinless wonder himself wins a Rumble on some independent show this month and starts bragging about it via social media.
