10 Shocking Backstage Incidents Involving WWE's Creative Team

Ever wanted to work backstage in WWE? Read this first!

The turnover of WWE creative team members is a definite sign of the difficulty in scripting WWE's product. Sure, you the fan might think it sounds simple and fun. But then bear in mind you're having to write narratives that encompass around fifty characters. Not only that, but you're having to come up with hours of weekly content, with long term plots also in mind. It isn't an easy job and some of Hollywood's finest writers have been chewed up and spat out by the WWE machine. Some of these 'future endeavours' have on occasion spoke out against WWE's backstage volatility... casting light upon real life tales of hilarity and despair. To make matters worse for those working creative, they've also had to report to Vince McMahon and Stephanie McMahon over the years. Can you imagine having Vince as a boss? Or how about having to tell Stephanie that her idea sucks? It's a political minefield, one that needs savvy navigation and tactile consideration of ideas. One way to avoid some of the following cringe stories might be WWE employing actual 'wrestling people' in creative roles. They do on occasion, as in the case of Paul Heyman writing Smackdown circa 2002. For the most part though, WWE want Hollywood writers. The Internet Wrestling Community has long bemoaned WWE's policy of employing these non-wrestling people to script Raw. WWE's employment requirements are all about having university educations and years of industry experience - and that's the TV industry, not the wrestling industry. Rightly so in some ways. While it might be fanciful to think a wrestling person could construct Raw or Smackdown, you can't beat hard earned qualifications and real world experience. However, those skilled individuals coming to WWE from an outsider perspective better wise up to the complexities of the wrestling world quickly... or suffer the humiliation of ending up in an article like this one!
