10 Shocking WWE SmackDown Moments You Never Saw Coming

Nobody ever went into an episode of SmackDown thinking the ring was going to collapse.

Debuting in 1999, Smackdown was an exciting addition to the then-World Wrestling Federation's weekly lineup. Fans were excited at the prospect of seeing more of top names like Steve Austin, The Rock and The Undertaker each week. Smackdown started out red hot, existing as an excellent complement to Monday Night Raw. As time has progressed however, the show has become less important to WWE. When Vince McMahon took the decision to split Raw and Smackdown into separate brands in 2002, there was renewed hope that the show could become something special again. For a short period towards the tail end of that year, it did. Looking at things from the perspective of which show had superior in-ring content, Smackdown whipped Raw in late-2002. It wasn't to last, and the blue brand became secondary once more shortly thereafter. The 'Brand Extension' is a thing of the past, and neither show has exclusive rosters any longer. This has made things a little more sketchy for Smackdown, which seems unnecessary most weeks. There's a real feeling that WWE's creative team treat the show like little more than a Raw retread. That's a shame, because there have been so many massive moments in the show's history. This article look at 10 of those moments, ones that thrilled fans and helped make Smackdown essential television. If only WWE would put this kind of focus on the broadcast weekly.
