10 Signs WWE Divas Division Is About To Change

Really, let's give Divas a chance.

Go on, it's alright to admit it. You and the millions of television viewers that tune into Raw each week use the Divas match as a time to go grab a snack or take a bathroom break. You typically don't have long to do so; the average Divas match is about two minutes, where even a five-minute bout feels like a lot of screen time. Raw is, and has been for some time, three hours long. Live events sometimes occur twice a month. It seems like now more than ever that WWE has more time to showcase its roster. Still, somehow the Divas get left behind.

There's a lot that's wrong with the Divas division, and the in-ring time these talented women get is only part of it. Despite that about 12 active Divas are on WWE's roster, somehow you only get to see about four at a time. It's a wonder that Naomi found her way onto a scene that only Paige and AJ Lee could get access to. In the meantime, Divas like Layla, Summer Rae, Cameron, and Alicia Fox get left off TV entirely while Rosa Mendes and Natalya have been squeezed into managerial roles.

Still, women's wrestling hasn't been this exciting in years. NXT is trailblazing what it means to be a woman in the squared circle. These wrestlers aren't known as Divas, and they don't have their own reality show, but they do get more time to fight than any of WWE's talent. Clearly something has to change.

10. AJ Lee Is Gone

Everyone loves AJ Lee. It was impossible not to. Her comic book-inspired fashion sense, her nerdy hobbies, and her pure passion for wrestling made her a talent that many could relate to. She never tried to be conventionally sexy, which was quite a welcome change in the Divas division. She just always had really good wrestling matches.

Paige is AJ's equal in that regard. Their first in-ring meeting was explosive. The second time it happened was a little less explosive, and by the third or fourth time, it was getting pretty stale. While AJ's departure from the company this year is sad, it's understandable. There was nothing else for her to do. She smashed the record for longest WWE Diva's Championship titleholder, keeping the strap for 295 days.

She and Paige had been trapped in an endless loop where they were trading off the WWE Diva's Championship on a near monthly basis, hogging the Divas spotlight and making the title meaningless in the process. No one else ever got a shot at the gold, even though WWE liked to tease it sometimes. Without AJ, perhaps that loop can end and some other Divas can step up to the plate.
