10 Things You Don't Know About WWE In 1993

8. Japanese Legend Genichiro Tenryu Was Supposed To Be At Wrestlemania IX

Longtime WWF fans will remember Japanese wrestling legend Genichiro Tenryu teaming with Koji Kitao against Demolition at Wrestlemania 7. He also competed in the 1993 Royal Rumble match. The next day, Vince McMahon held a press conference in Fresno, CA, where he announced that Tenryu would be competing at Wrestlemania IX, and that the WWF would be sending talent to the WAR organization in Japan (which Tenryu ran from 1992 to 2000) later in the year as part of a cross-promotion between the two companies. Somewhere along the line, the decision to have Tenryu wrestle at Wrestlemania was nixed, and the WWF didn€™t appear in the WAR promotion until May of 1994. This was announced by yet another press conference after the Royal Rumble, which Tenryu competed in again, as well as appearing in the group of heels that stuffed The Undertaker into the casket when he faced Yokozuna.
