10 Things You Need To Know About Ric Flair's Original WWF Run

3. Won & Lost His Second WWE Championship At Non-Televised Events

At Summerslam, Mr Perfect and Ric Flair attacked Randy Savage to set-up the long awaited WrestleMania rematch. With the attack Savage went into the match at less than 100%, but what really was going on was more compelling. Behind the scenes, Randy Savage and Elizabeth€™s marriage was falling apart, and it caused Savage to become detached to the point where he didn€™t care whether he had the championship or not in Flair€™s opinion. As a result, Vince set-up a match for Savage drop the title to Flair on September 1st, 1992 at a TV taping. Flair thought the match was terrible. Vince McMahon himself came out and stopped the initial taping of it, and the men re-did the match an hour later in another substandard performance.
Additionally, not only did Flair win the title at a non-televised event, he lost it as well. After receiving a botched suplex from The Ultimate Warrior, a chip was dislodged in Flair€™s inner ear and threw off his sense of balance. He was diagnosed with paroxysmal positional vertigo. Flair immediately dropped the title to Bret Hart in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada on October 12th, 1992, in another self-admitted terrible match. For all intents and purposes Flair was a transitional champion.
