10 Things That Have Contributed To WWE SmackDown Live's Fall From Grace

9. Game Of Hot Potato With The United States Championship

It should be noted that the United States Championship was in a way worse position late last year when Roman Reigns completely neglected the title while in possession of it. However, the game of hot potato AJ Styles and Kevin Owens have been playing with it in recent months isn't much better.

As part of the Superstar Shake-up, Kevin Owens brought the United States Championship with him over to SmackDown Live while the Intercontinental Championship became property of Raw. As a former Universal champion, Owens brought instant credibility to the star-spangled prize and his feuds with Chris Jericho and AJ Styles have been thoroughly entertaining.

It was a cool swerve when Jericho regained the gold for all of two days back in May, but the constant title changes between Owens and Styles as of late have been completely unnecessary. Styles first captured the championship at a Madison Square Garden house show in early July, which was a pleasant surprise, before randomly losing it mere weeks later at Battleground to Owens.

Then, Styles won the belt back on SmackDown two days after that in a Triple Threat match. They'll be doing battle once again at SummerSlam with the gold up for grabs, so here's hoping Styles retains and embarks on a lengthy reign with the title.
