10 Things TNA Got Right

So TNA is officially twelve years old! But we can't help but feel the company's best days are behind them.

AJStyles copy So TNA is officially twelve years old! Total Nonstop Action Wrestling receives a lot of criticism, and rightfully so. The unwanted stepchild of the wrestling world, TNA has been ridiculed for ridiculous booking, poor live attendance, woeful PPV buys and pushing 40 year old stars from other promotions. It's easy to criticize TNA, but that doesn't mean that the company has been a complete failure. Over the last twelve years, TNA has proven that they can provide an alternative wrestling product that fans can take pride in supporting. Through all the blatant attempts to emulate WWE, and all the downright insane booking by Vince Russo, TNA has shown flashes of brilliance that prove they don't deserve all the hate. Sure a lot of that may be in the past, but we can still look back at the last decade and say that TNA managed to carve out a place for itself in the American wrestling scene and stay there. To show respect where it€™s due, this list puts aside all the criticism and predictions of bankruptcy, and looks back on TNA€™s finest achievements.

10. The X-Division

Rubix TNA The X-Division may have long fallen into irrelevancy, but in the early days of the company it was their calling card. Much like the Cruiserweights in WCW, the X-Division wrestlers consistently stole every show they were booked on with their fast paced high-flying style. Stars like AJ Styles, Jerry Lynn and Low-Ki set the bar originally in 2002, and were soon joined and surpassed by the likes of Christopher Daniels, Samoa Joe, Chris Sabin, Amazing Red, Jay Lethal, Sonjay Dutt and Austin Aries. Better still the X-Division was billed as being "Not about weight limits, but no limits". This helped TNA distance the X-Division from the Cruiserweights by including larger wrestlers like Samoa Joe who could hang with the high-flyers. At Unbreakable 2005, the X-Division match went on last because the title and the wrestlers competing over it, were the hottest things going in the company. That night AJ Styles, Christopher Daniels and Samoa Joe put on one of the greatest triple threat matches of all time, proving that the X-Division could be the future of wrestling. Alas, it didn't last, but when it was at it's peak the X-Division was the crown jewel of TNA, and most importantly of all, it was like nothing seen on WWE Television which gave TNA something to truly call its own.

As a wrestling fan I've flown across the Atlantic for the last five years specifically to attend WrestleMania (28 and 30) as well as TNA, ROH, Evolve, Chikara and most recently PWG. I may have a problem! But if you're reading my work then you probably love wrestling too, so lets focus on that!
