10 Things WWE Wants You To Forget About Jerry Lawler

3. He Was Removed From A Survivor Series 1993 Match Due Accusations About An Underage Girl

The previously mentioned Lawler feud with Bret Hart lasted through most of 1993 with a match set up for Survivor Series that year. It was supposed to be a match with Bret teaming up three of his brothers (Owen, Bruce & Keith) against Lawler and his three Knights, who were just three masked wrestlers. Why was Lawler removed? It was never really explained on commentary. The story goes that a 15 year old girl accused Lawler of raping and sodomizing her. Lawler was indicted for it. However, before the case could go any further the girl admitted that she had made up the whole thing. Due to the accusations, Lawler was forced to take time off. Once the charges were dropped he returned to WWE. It's one of those stories that people believe to be true even though it didn't happen. Fans often make jokes about Lawler liking younger women in part because of this story. He was also known for dating women that were much younger than him and even married one that was significantly younger, but Lawler was not charged with doing anything illegal. In doing research about it, one theory that was brought up was that the girl was just a plant by some wrestlers that didn't like Lawler and felt like he owed them money when he was promoting Memphis wrestling shows. Since the girl said that she made the whole thing up, there likely is some truth to that story. The three Knights (Barry Horowitz, Greg Valentine & Jeff Gaylord in masks) teamed with Michaels to lose against the Hart brothers. The match was definitely hurt by the fact that Lawler wasn't there since they had built up his rivalry with Hart so well. Having Michaels in there just didn't come off like a good fit since the "Heartbreak Kid" having three Knights with him was pretty ridiculous. This was also the match that started Owen Hart's heel turn because he was the only one eliminated on his team. Lawler returned to the company in early 1994 and his absence at Survivor Series 1993 was never really explained with what really happened.
