10 Times NXT Was As Dumb As WWE's Main Roster

Inheriting Raw and SmackDown's bad WWE habits means more booking blunders for NXT...

For the longest time, NXT was the wrestling purist's choice for WWE fans, giving them the chance to peak into the future of the main roster and to experience a wrestling show that seemed more focused on the wrestling side of sports entertainment. In more recent years, it's become the preferred choice for WWE fans away from RAW and SmackDown owing to the state of the booking of the main roster brands.

With TakeOver cards consistently knocking out Match of the Year contenders, fans of NXT relish in the fact that a lot of the main roster silliness remains absent from what goes down on Wednesday nights. At least, that's what they want to believe.

Even before the topsy-turvy booking of the Wednesday Night Wars and COVID-stricken 2020, NXT is still a part of tWWE and as such, has always had the faintest whiff of a Vince McMahon idea brewing in the background. While some of it has a certain charm - the revival of the In Your House event as an example - a lot of these ideas should've stayed buried away in the pantheon of ideas labelled "what was Vince thinking?!"...

10. Shotzi Blackheart's Tank Is More Over Than Her

The high-energy Blackheart introduced her tank to NXT on a January 2020 episode of NXT. It proved to be one helluva crowd and Twitter popper and had it just stayed as an entrance gimmick, it may have indeed remained "cool" enough to escape this list, but what happened afterwards taints the spectacle of the punk rocker driving a miniature war machine.

In May last year, NXT released "special look at Shotzi Blackheart", a video purposed to give background to the superstar but ran dry in its "AREN'T TANKS GREAT? Also my dad was cool... But TANKS THOUGH?!" presentation. In her program with Aaliyah and Robert "Definitely Not Tony Khan" Stone, Blackheart would repeatedly and comically run over Stone, and then in her subsequent feud with Candice LeRae, LeRae destroyed Blackheart's beloved tank, who responded with more emotion than Big Show when Big Boss Man stole his dead dad.

Shotzi would get a new tank for TakeOver: WarGames, almost building it up to be the fifth member of her War Games team, the added "charm" this time is that it can shoot "rockets", scaring the kiwi out of Dakota Kai and more recently, turning Austin Theory into a Ken doll.
