10 Times WWE Stars Were Struck By The Intercontinental Title Curse

Sometimes, holding or chasing the IC Title isn't all it should be...

WWE.com Traditionally, the Intercontinental Title is the second most important belt in WWE. Acting as a secondary accompaniment to the WWE Title, the strap hasn't always been treated favourably. In late-2002, it was discontinued altogether, as WWE moved in a different direction, creating the World Heavyweight Championship. Thankfully, in 2003 the Intercontinental gold made a comeback. To date, there have been some legendary holders of the strap. The likes of Bret Hart, Shawn Michaels, The Rock and Steve Austin are all former Intercontinental Champions. Sadly, not every titleholder has been wholly memorable, as this list proves. The reasons are varied, but many of them boil down to a strange curse that's been plaguing the WWF/WWE Intercontinental Title for years. The belt's main function used to be preparing wrestlers for a run at the World Title. Of course, that mind set has changed as the years have rolled on, but it's still regarded as important by fans. It's weird then that holding or chasing the title hasn't always worked in the favour of the performers doing so. Each example on this list explains what curse befell the wrestler in possession of - or challenging position for - the Intercontinental Title. Injuries, weird instances of career stalling and outright firings, they're all here.
