10 Truly Awful WWE Divas Storylines, Angles And Gimmicks

WWE certainly didn't give the Divas a chance with these ones.

The now former WWE Diva AJ Lee caused a bit of a stir back in February when she tweeted Stephanie McMahon asking why WWE divas weren't paid the same and didn't get the same amount of screen time as their male counterparts despite, as AJ claimed, being in high-rated segments on television and shifting record-setting merchandise. As a result of this #GiveDivasAChance trended worldwide and fans echoed AJ's call for WWE to showcase the divas more than they had been. It's true that the divas are not given as much time as they could be, considering that WWE has five hours of first-run television time every single week. A three minute match doesn't really cut it. But as bad as it may be for WWE divas these days, things used to be a whole lot worse. It wasn't that long ago that women in the WWE were used as little more than eye candy. They didn't wrestle often and, when they did, fans were trained to chant 'we want puppies' while they were doing so. Sure, WWE divas such as Lita and Trish Stratus have gone on to become WWE Hall of Famers, but it wasn't always great and they often had to do things they weren't comfortable doing. The WWE have at times openly treated their female performers with contempt and purposefully given them awful storylines and gimmicks as some sort of weird punishment. Here are ten of the worst.
