10 Most Unexpectedly Great WWE Matches

You were expecting one thing, but you got so much more with these matches.

Everyone reading this has their own list of favourite matches. Maybe they're all-time technical classics, or maybe they're full of aerial wizardry that just shouldn't be possible. Maybe they're culminations of blood feuds featuring competitors that hate each other. There are numerous factors that go into a match becoming a favorite, and everyone's lists are different because of it. Most of those matches had plenty of hype going into them. As soon as the match was announced, you knew it was going to be something special. All of the pieces were in place to make it a success, and you couldn't wait to see it. However, there are also those occasions when a match ends up catching you completely off guard. Sometimes it's when the people in the match don't seem to have styles that would blend very well together. Other times, it just features one or more workers that you don't think are very good in the ring. These are the matches that, for one reason or another, didn't look great on paper, but ended up being all-time classics, at best, and at worst, were much better than anyone could have anticipated. They fall into their own special category, but that's what makes them great. Whether they took place in WWE/WWF, WCW, or ECW, they all came out of nowhere to surprise people.
