It felt very much like WWE were reshuffling the deck at SummerSlam. With five major title changes and a host of upsets, the pay-per-view was inconsistent from a quality standpoint, but set some of the company's biggest stars off in bold new directions ahead of the rumoured Superstar Shake-Up, with some climbing the ladder, and others sliding downwards.

Brock Lesnar remains Universal Champion, though Braun Strowman emerged as his next big foe. Jinder Mahal's turgid title reign survived Shinsuke Nakamura's challenge. Seth Rollins & Dean Ambrose's newfound cohesion brought tag gold, and while AJ Styles, Sasha Banks, and Natalya prospered, Rusev and Baron Corbin were buried.

The year's second biggest show is now out of the way. It'll be a while before WWE start building towards WrestleMania 34, but the road to New Orleans is finally starting to clear up, and will continue to to so over the coming weeks and months.

8 April is just under eight months away, but while it's still too early to be 100% sure of the match card, WWE's direction certainly isn't as muddy as it was this time last week. Let's take a stab at some of the event's biggest bouts...

10. Intercontinental Title: Big Cass (c) Vs. Finn Bálor

An oiled up Enzo Amore was powerless to prevent Big Cass from defeating Big Show at SummerSlam 2017. 'The Realest Guy In The Room' slipped out of his shark cage, but was immediately booted in the face, with Show meeting the same fate a few moments later.

Enzo and Cass faced each other on Raw, but the big man's knee was hurt after taking a bump to the outside, and gave way as he tried to execute the Empire Elbow. There's currently no word how long he'll be out for.

This means there's an outside chance Cass will miss WrestleMania, but there's no reason to believe his push won't resume when he returns. Fans haven't taken to his heel turn, but Vince McMahon loves tall guys, and likely sees Cass as a potential main eventer. The Universal Title scene is a little crowded at the moment though, so making him Intercontinental Champion seems likelier.

Finn Bálor would be a solid opponent. If WWE want to pull a credible title change, all they need to do is have the Irishman show up in full 'Demon' regalia, and his skill means he should be able to get a good match out of his still-developing opponent.
