10 Wrestlemania Main Events That Were Completely Upstaged

10. WrestleMania VII - Hulk Hogan Vs. Sgt. Slaughter Upstaged By Ultimate Warrior Vs. Randy Savage

Heading into WrestleMania VII, there were two main storylines. The big one, which obviously would be the main event, was Hulk Hogan trying to win back the WWF Championship from the turncoat Iraqi sympathiser Sgt. Slaughter. The 1B storyline was Ultimate Warrior getting revenge on Randy Savage for costing him said championship at the 1991 Royal Rumble. The match between Warrior and Savage at WrestleMania VII was a career-ending match, so obviously the stakes were much higher than Hogan/Slaughter. You can win a championship at any time. Losing your career is final (or at least, that€™s how it should be). So with raised stakes, more drama (especially with Miss Elizabeth sitting in the crowd), and a better worker in the Macho Man putting together a better match, the Career Ending Match blew the main event completely out of the water. The ending image of Macho Man lifting Miss Elizabeth on his shoulders has been more lasting over the past 25 years than a bloody Hulk Hogan waving the American Flag, championship around his waist.
