Between the Segway, the Gymini twins, and the Simon System, Simon Dean was designed to be annoying as hell and easily detestable. Which is weird, because he's named for one of the most respected guys in the business.
Simon Dean is an inversion of Dean Simon, which is Dean Malenko's real name. The Man of a Thousand Holds may not have scaled the heights of Eddie Guerrero or Chris Benoit, but his technical proficiency in the ring was undeniable.
Meanwhile, Simon Dean was little more than a blip on the WWE's radar in 2004, bodyshaming Divas and squabbling with whomever would listen. Supposedly this was meant as an inside joke to Malenko, not a mockery of him, but how can you NOT take offense to being in any way associated with Simon Dean? His best moment in WWE was being clotheslined off a Segway. That's it.
Malenko deserves better.
