10 Wrestling Match Finishes That Just Don't Work

6. The Invisible Champion

Going into Wrestlemania XXVII, the main event had people talking. What was up with those two? Was it a friendly rivalry, or was there legitimate beef there? I€™m talking about WWE bobblehead John Cena and Wrestlemania guest host The Rock, obviously. Despite the fact that the main event at the biggest show of the year would see him defending his WWE Championship, The Miz was the third wheel in a confrontation between Cena and a man who didn€™t even wrestle anymore. The Miz and Cena had a fairly entertaining match for about quarter of an hour, until Cena tackled Miz over the crowd barrier (leading to a very real concussion for the champion - Mike Mizanin claims that he can€™t remember anything that happened in the match to this day). Both men lay where they€™d landed, unable to get up let alone back into the ring, and were both counted out to a scattered chorus of boos. Cena looked like an idiot, knocking himself out and losing his title shot in the main event of Wrestlemania€ but that wasn€™t all. http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x17ux9o_005-john-cena-vs-the-miz-c-wrestlemania-27_sport Guest host The Rock came thundering down to the ring, just in time to intercept an email from the anonymous RAW General Manager. We€™ll never know what that email actually said, as The Rock threw the laptop to one side and announced his own ruling on the matter: the match would restart, with no disqualification, no count out. As Cena, mysteriously back to full fighting health again, threw Miz back into the ring and attempted an Attitude Adjustment, The Rock hit him with a Rock Bottom and allowed Miz to pick up the pinfall, retaining his WWE Championship. Naturally, The Great One then beat the WWE Champion to a pulp and gave him the People€™s Elbow to send everyone home happy.
Well€ not everyone. It was never explained why The Rock had the power to restart matches and add his own stipulations, nor were there any ramifications for ignoring the actual General Manager€™s orders. The company€™s top babyface ended up looking like a proper mug, and the WWE Champion was relegated to a bystander in his own title defence. The only one that came out looking like a winner was The Rock: the celebrity guest who was supposed to kick the show off, not close it down. The next night, RAW was dominated by Cena and The Rock agreeing to face one another at the next year€™s Wrestlemania, meaning that the main event of Wrestlemania XXVII was nothing more than a glorified teaser trailer for the main event of Wrestlemania XXVIII. Even by WWE standards, that€™s pathetic.
