Wrestling audiences have grown increasingly intelligent over the years, which makes it harder for them to get caught up in the moment.

Never before have so many people been smartened up to the inner-workings of professional wrestling. Many fans know all about the once secret lingo, and the hidden backstage politics. We get frustrated over the lack of pushes for certain talent, and lament the often poor storylines. But on rare occassions, even the most cynical fan can be absolutely won over and made a believer once again.

“Marking out” is when we see something we truly enjoy, and can't hold it it. Basically, we forget that what we’re watching is scripted. We celebrate the product, and end up cheering like crazy, even from the comfort of our living room. It’s a rush, and an amazing feeling, but it's doesn’t happen very often. One of the things that causes us to mark out the most is a return of a loved wrestler who has been gone for a lengthy period of time. When they come back, it feels like magic.

Since WWE is the king of the wrestling industry, they’ve had most of the biggest returns ever. Whether someone has been gone due to injuries, or personal problems or some of those aforementioned backstage politics, we can’t help but come together over the grand return of one of our heroes.

For this list, we’re looking at wrestlers who were in WWE, and then left for awhile only to return to the company later on down the line. So while someone like Sting may have made us mark out when he finally joined WWE, he didn’t really make a return, so he’s not found here.

With that out of the way, here are ten great wrestling returns that we marked out for.

As Rust Cohle from True Detective said "Life's barely long enough to get good at one thing. So be careful what you're good at." Sadly, I can't solve a murder like Rust...or change a tire, or even tie a tie. But I do know all the lyrics to Hulk Hogan's "Real American" theme song and can easily name every Natural Born Thriller from the dying days of WCW. I was once ranked 21st in the United States in Tetris...on the Playstation 3 version...for about a week. Follow along @AndrewSoucek and check out my podcast at wrestlingwithfriends.com
