10 Wrestling Storylines That Killed A Character

9. Bael - Death By Matanza

Lucha Underground took theatricality to the next level, scrapping "reality" completely and presenting a wrestling product that was 100% fiction. It portrayed it's backstage segments as "scenes" that made up a serialised story arc. This gave LU the freedom to go to places WWE can't (or at least shouldn't) and go full soap opera.

This gave them the freedom to kill.

The Crew were LU's version of J & J Security, only more of a threat. Cortez Castro, Mr Cisco and Bael did the bidding of diabolical owner Dario Cueto. But when they failed to win the Trios Championships from Son of Havoc, Angelico and Ivelisse twice, Cueto decided to punish them, by offering one of them to his monstrous brother Matanza.

Matanza (whom we still know very little about) spent the entire season locked in a cell, and was implied to be physically huge, and dangerously violent. Cueto used him to threaten the Crew, and when they failed to win their matches he let them choose which member would enter Matanzas cell.

Bael was forced up against the bars by his team mates and Matanza proceeded to maul (possibly consume?) him, splattering the other two with his blood. It was shocking, due to the extreme violence and for the fact that LU had proven they were not fooling around. People were going to die on this show.

As a wrestling fan I've flown across the Atlantic for the last five years specifically to attend WrestleMania (28 and 30) as well as TNA, ROH, Evolve, Chikara and most recently PWG. I may have a problem! But if you're reading my work then you probably love wrestling too, so lets focus on that!
