10 WWE Reunions That Were False Dawns

Never count your chickens when Vinny Mac is about...

In the landscape of WWE, tag teams and stables have found success through everything from utter domination (The Shield) to being a diverse and charismatic odd couple (Team Hell No).

However, nothing lasts forever and sometimes we have to say goodbye to our beloved groups due to injury, creative taking another direction or even the unforgivable heel turn.

These instances have yielded varying prosperity. Edge and Christian both went on to become nameable singles stars, yet American Alpha members Chad Gable and Jason Jordan have both had their fair share of misfortune since splitting.

If a team was truly popular, the moment the group join forces again will conjure up a monster pop that will vocalise just how much the audience have wanted to see this team reunite.

What gets fans so riled up is the potential that comes with the reformation of our favourite teams. Now they're back, they could take on the current Tag Team champions, take down the modern day authority figures, or even just get a decent programme to play out on weekly television.

As a WWE fan you probably know by now that our best laid plans often don't come to fruition...

10. D-Generation X (2009/10)

How can a reunion of the two founding members of D-Generation X, Triple H and Shawn Michaels, ever be classed as a false dawn?

This isn't about the initial coming together of the two 13 years ago, to take down Vince McMahon and his Spirit Squad, as that actually worked - all sausage humour aside.

No, let's go back to 2009.

Triple H found himself in the thick of a war with Randy Orton and eventually his two Legacy lackeys, Cody Rhodes and Ted DiBiase. After consistently finding himself on the losing side of proceedings, The Game pleaded for HBK to come out his self-imposed exile (becoming an awful chef in an office cafeteria in Texas) to help him vanquish the youngsters.

The two would reform and eventually defeat Legacy, challenge John Cena for the WWE Championship and win the Unified WWE Tag Team Championships for the first team in their history.

A run that, on the face of it, looked quite lucrative for the two, actually announced to the world just how few miles were left in the DX wagon. The comedy was falling flat (Hornswoggle suing the team in a court full of little people was abject).

Michaels came back for one reason, and that was to finish what he started with The Undertaker at WrestleMania 25. We all knew it was coming, and even though the initial rekindling of DX was nostalgic, the remainder of the run was overshadowed by their eventual rematch.
