10 WWE Stars Who Could Replace Shane McMahon As SmackDown Commissioner

Stand back, because big Vince is on the comeback trail. Maybe...

Daniel Bryan's announcement on the September 5 SmackDown, that brand Commissioner Shane McMahon would be "suspended indefinitely," was kinda usurped by Vince McMahon's appearance this week. The overseer of WWE announced he would reinstate his son in time for a match at Hell In A Cell.

Vince didn't specify whether or not Shane would resume his usual Commissioner duties after facing Kevin Owens inside the Cell. That raises an interesting question: should WWE look to replace Shane as the Commish full-time? It would suit the storyline and avoid any more awkward explanations when he inevitably gets physical again in time for WrestleMania 34.

If WWE do pick someone else to assume the chief authority figure role on SmackDown, just who could it be? There are loads of options, both past and present, that the company could use. Even if this is only a short term gig, it could freshen up the stale chemistry on the show between Shane and General Manager Daniel Bryan...

10. James Ellsworth

Think of all the chin puns WWE could rehash if James Ellsworth became SmackDown's new Commissioner. After all, we haven't heard those jokes for a few weeks, so the creative team are probably begging to bust out some 'chinless wonder' wisecracks at Jimmy's expense. Besides, he needs something new to do, post-Carmella.

Shed the ridiculous Vanilla Ice wardrobe, put a suit on Ellsworth, cast him as Daniel Bryan's new boss, and you may just have a winner. As silly as it might read to some, James is actually one of most accomplished talkers on SmackDown. No, seriously, that guy can cut a good promo when called upon - so the role is pretty much perfect for him.

This is an unlikely story waiting to happen, but it'd be hilarious to watch Daniel Bryan's face as he was constantly undermined by a wrestler with less physical stature than himself. Please though, WWE, don't make him Commish with that outfit on. Ellsworth needs to have some credibility.
