10 WWE Stories Everybody Got Wrong In 2017

8. "This'll Be Bray Wyatt's Year"

The 'story': Less widely reported 'fake news' than a case of inexplicably misplaced optimism encouraged by a dawn so false it was practically midnight. Bray Wyatt made it to the final three of the Royal Rumble, and when he pinned AJ Styles to claim his first WWE championship, many began to tout this as finally being the year of the 'Eater of Worlds'. After repeatedly coming off the loser in all his biggest feuds, at last the company seemed to be taking their 'new face of fear' seriously. It was time for all those fireflies to shine.

The reality: Nope. Not one bit. Bray immediately followed up his title win with one of the worst WWE feuds in years opposite Randy Orton. He meekly lost the strap in a bug-infested WrestleMania wash-out before things culminated with the sorry affair that was the House of Horrors. The follow-up saw Bray engaged in a literally never-ending tiff with Finn Bálor, based around spooky sh*t. A bout of mumps meant Wyatt narrowly avoided wrestling as a banshee at TLC - that's been the one saving grace for Bray in a year that, despite claiming the top title, has been paradoxically worse than any of his previous.

Benjamin was born in 1987, and is still not dead. He variously enjoys classical music, old-school adventure games (they're not dead), and walks on the beach (albeit short - asthma, you know). He's currently trying to compile a comprehensive history of video game music, yet denies accusations that he purposefully targets niche audiences. He's often wrong about these things.
