10 WWE Superstars Who Should Be The Top Male Heel Right Now

Because they need to line someone up ready for after they turn Baron Corbin babyface.

Your writer is one of those people who sees genuine entertainment value in Baron Corbin, but he is recognised ratings cryptonite. Besides, with Corbin in your main event, there’s a pretty low ceiling on match quality, which is not ideal if you’re competing with AEW’s best super-workers - or if you’ve just told the internet your company has “the best wrestling in the world. Period.”

Meanwhile, Shane McMahon is rapidly becoming just as unpopular with fans after eating up what feels like half of all TV time for weeks on end. It doesn’t help that creative have completely mishandled his character. He should be a coward always hiding behind his mates, but instead, he’s the tough guy who can hang in ring with Roman Reigns.

Brock Lesnar on his day is still the kind of magnetic, explosive special attraction who doesn’t need a belt to feel important. In fact it would be preferable for him not to have one, given his part-time status. Vince McMahon keeps putting them back on him regardless, leaving fans either resentful of his current title reign or living in fear of his next one.

With such a shallow, limited roster, it’s understandable Vince relies so heavily on the same handful of top guys for weeks and months on end. Oh wait, no that’s right, McMahon has access to a seemingly limitless pool of top talent that he could be making use of.

With that in mind...

10. Buddy Murphy

Buddy Murphy was justified in proclaiming himself WWE’s best kept secret as Cruiserweight Champion on 205 Live.

Since drafting him to Smackdown Live, it feels like WWE are determined to keep the secret under wraps. He’s been confined to promos during ad breaks and wwe.com exclusives.

It can’t be fun to have to have gone from dominant champion to feeling like a forgotten man. On the plus side, while creative isn’t featuring him, they’re not actively ruining him. He’s not been dragged into the 24/7 Title chase, jobbed out or featured in weak backstage skits. This means there’s still a chance to bring him in feeling fresh.

Most of the WWE Universe remember him, if they remember him at all, for his impressive displays on the PPV kick off shows. With his brutal move set and sinister music he could still make a big impact, if allowed to go on a tear through the Smackdown roster.
