12 Times Fans Wanted Wrestlers To Drop The Belt

What the crowd wants, the crowd probably doesn't get.

The art of booking a championship match is to make fans want to see the title change hands so badly that they'll part with their hard-earned money to see it happen. Sometimes, the babyface is the most important part of the equation. When a competitor just catches fire, his momentum becomes undeniable, and fans want to share in his glory as he breaks through the final barrier to stand unopposed as champion. Other times, it's a heel champion who is so hated that fans want someone, anyone, to shut him up and take away his bragging rights. But this list isn't about that. That list would be something like, "12 Reasonably Well-Promoted Title Matches," and inherently less worth your time to read. No, this list is comprised of truly unique moments in time, when fans' desire to see a title change transcended normal heel/face dichotomies. Inside, you'll find title fans rejecting theoretically beloved babyfaces, hometown crowds going absolutely molten, and at least one actual, no-fooling riot that occurred following a title match. They say that the championships don't really mean anything, that they're just props, but it would seem that historically, the fans have disagreed.
