13 More Interpromotional Dream Wrestling Matches We Must See

Those mouth-watering combinations of Lucha Undergound, ROH, New Japan, NXT and WWE stars!

Back in November, I wrote an article that looked at just how permeable the walls between the world€™s biggest wrestling promotions had become. Johnny Gargano, Tommaso Ciampa and New Japan legend Jushin €œThunder€ Liger showed up to wrestle in NXT. Alberto Del Rio, then the reigning AAA Mega Champion, showed up on WWE television and pinned United States Champion John Cena. You'd think that was the climax, but no. On the heels of New Japan€™s WrestleKingdom 10, another international shake-up occurred as WWE lured away four of that promotion€™s top stars. AJ Styles has already made an impact in WWE, while Shinsuke Nakamura is NXT-bound and a healthy fraction of the Bullet Club are waiting in the wings. Simply put, the matches on this list aren't mere fantasy anymore. The time-honored smark tradition of hypothetically matching up rivals from different promotions hasn't been more likely to presage actual contests since the height of the Attitude Era, when major stars jumped between promotions with regularity. So, while none of these matches will have the pop culture impact of Lex Luger waltzing onto the first Nitro to pick a fight with Hogan, there's a pretty solid chance that at least some of the following matches will happen in this, the strange pro wrestling golden age in which we are living. 13. Roman Reigns (WWE) Vs. Hirooki Goto (NJPW)
In this battle of soft-spoken warriors, Reigns has a huge edge in size and strength, while Goto far outclasses him in terms of experience. Further, although he is the Big Dog, the Juggernaut, the Powerhouse and the One Against All, Roman Reigns can't boast a single nickname as badass as The Wild Samurai. Goto and Reigns have had very different career paths. Reigns held the WWE Tag Team Championship alongside Seth Rollins, but has since focused almost entirely on the WWE World Heavyweight Championship. Meanwhile, Goto has built a career on collecting impressive accolades -- he's won 4 of NJPW€™s 7 active championships and boasts 10 major tournament victories, but he's always fallen short of the New Japan€™s top singles prize. What Should Happen: Roman wins. Some things don't change.
