For years, the only Intercontinental title reign William Regal had had had ended with a loss to Edge at WrestleMania X8. But, in a feat even more unlikely than using the word “had” three times in a row, Regal regained that same title six years and eight months later in Manchester.

Regal used his home advantage in England to beat Santino Marella in under thirty seconds on an episode of Raw. While Santino fell far short of his goal of becoming the longest-reigning IC champion in history, Regal ended a drought lasting from 17 March 2002 to 10 November 2008, setting a record of his own for that title.
