15 Best WWE Attitude Era Matches

The Attitude Era had more than just the drama.

The Attitude Era was a lot of things but, from an in-ring standpoint, it was often very far from good. In fact, some of the wrestling during that period was downright abysmal. The athletic standard has certainly improved in recent years and the wrestling on WWE shows is, in general, a lot better today. These days it's normal to have good to great, long matches on episodes of Raw and Smackdown. The audience demands it. But back in those halcyon days of 1997-2001, fans were so into the characters and storylines that they often overlooked what could be, at times, pretty shoddy wrestling. That's not to say that the Attitude Era didn't boast it's fair share of great matches, however. With performers the caliber of Steve Austin, The Rock, Triple H, Mick Foley, Chris Benoit and The Undertaker knocking around fans were still treated to the occasional stunner (no pun intended). Rose-tinted glasses are often worn when fans discuss the period: a lot of it was bad, car-crash TV, sexist and juvenile to boot. But there were still some excellent wrestling matches to be found, usually on pay-per-view. If you're sick of the sterile nature of the current product, load up the WWE Network and take a trip down memory lane with these classics.
