Enter the dragons!

Pro wrestling has had its share of dreams, doctors, monsters, and boys of various kinds -- pretty, cow, nature, etc. -- but there's one common gimmick that's literally legendary: dragons.

Yes, wrestling history is littered with the mythical beasts of every kind, from metaphorical monsters to folks we’re supposed to buy as actual reptiles. I’ve undertaken the vitally important task of ranking them all, taking into account their in-ring legacy as well as the extent to which they live up to their name.

For the purposes of pro wrestling taxonomy, I’ve also taken the liberty of assigning each guy a species and scientific name in the grand Wile E. Coyote tradition.

15. Black Dragon/Ultimate Dragon

Species: Shadow dragon (draco canadensis)

The evil doppelgänger is a proud pro wrestling tradition. The Undertaker had his Underfaker and Sting had to contend with an nWo double, but no one gets it worse than the masked stars of Mexico and Japan.

The Octagón family has to deal with the rival Pentagón clan, and Chris Jericho once showed up in a white bodysuit as the villainous Super Liger. Case in point today: Black Dragon, also known as Ultimate Dragon, the evil twin of puroresu legend Último Dragón. Beneath the mask is Canadian journeyman grappler Brett Como, who looks like the long-lost love child of Doug Furnas and Phil LaFon.
