His name sounds like the kind of thing any number of wrestling fans would make up as children, but the Maxx Payne gimmick - created by Darryl Peterson - in WCW was actually quite cool. Grungy and brooding, the character stood out from almost everything else the cartoon-like organisation were presenting, and was a nice fit with the maniacal Cactus Jack. Completely out of the ordinary for the company in the early-90s, Jack and Payne were allowed to engage in brutal brawls with The Nasty Boys, which really contrast spectacularly with WCW's then-philosophy and wholesome, Disney image. Peterson would move on to feature in WWE as Man Mountain Rock, but would never come close to replicating his short time in WCW. Trying (and failing) to sue the makers of the acclaimed Max Payne series of videogames for gimmick infringement is the last we've heard of the performer. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U3RgOfxgihM
