Despite being one of the most popular tag teams of their generation, The Rockers were at odds with each other for years and would often get into minor spats. One evening in 1991, things got out of hand.

Jannetty blames Roddy Piper, who he says stirred the pot between them that ultimately led to a fist fight. Jannetty was on top when the police arrived, and they saw Shawn bruised and beaten while Jannetty looked far fresher, so they assumed him to be the instigator. They were about to cuff Marty when Macho Man Randy Savage walked over and asked, "€œWhat€™s going on here?€" The police recognised him and got excited, while Jannetty told him quickly that he and Shawn had been fighting. €œ

"You'€™re not going to take him to jail for that, are ya'?€" Savage asked the police in his distinctive voice. The cops told him they had no choice, but Savage smoothed things over by claiming kayfabe. €œ"No, that€™s what we do,"€ he told them. "€œThey are setting something up for a storyline.€"

After Savage agreed to sign some pictures for the police they let Jannetty go. The next day, Jannetty tried to apologise to Michaels but was met with an angry, "F**k you, I quit!"€ Jannetty pleaded with him to get ready and come to that night€™'s show in Seattle, but Michaels refused. Jannetty worked the card on his own and word soon got around the boys about the incident.

Eventually the duo were called into a meeting with McMahon where they shook hands, hugged, and apologised. A few weeks later, they were split up on television, though they were able to mend fences and work with each other in matches around the country.

Winner: Marty Jannetty
